Rio Tinto Minerals Corporate Headquarters

100,000 sq ft Tenant Improvement, Greenwood Village, Colo.

Rio Tinto Minerals, the world’s largest producer of salt, boron and talc, selected Greenwood Village as the location for their new corporate headquarters and laboratories. The existing three-story office was stripped to the core and shell and rebuilt to accommodate over 65,000 sq ft of office space and 35,000 sq ft of laboratory functions.

The building’s office areas have open and closed work spaces, a library with a movable book rack system, a 1,500 sq ft data and telecommunications center with raised access floor, computer room cooling units and a UPS system. Both wet and dry chemistry labs have scanning electron microscopes and calibration equipment. The 14 fume hoods require the HVAC system to employ phoenix control valves that monitor and control room-to-room space pressures. The Rio Tinto facility achieved LEED Silver certification.
