Rio Tinto Minerals Corporate Headquarters

Tenant Improvement Achieved LEED Silver Certification

Rio Tinto Minerals, the world’s largest producer of salt, boron and talc, selected Greenwood Village as the location for their new corporate headquarters and laboratories. The existing three-story office was stripped to the core and shell and rebuilt to accommodate over 65,000 sq ft of office space and 35,000 sq ft of laboratory functions. The project had to be finished in 14 weeks to meet the employee move-in date. Multiple construction packages were required, necessitating phased scheduling that allowed for maximum productivity of up to 200 workers on site.

During the project’s speedy three-week demolition phase, 391 tons of construction debris was processed and recycled. The project also required careful scheduling and management of special order products such as high efficiency mechanical systems, recycled flooring and millwork, and low VOC paints and sealants. Despite the frantic pace and specialized facility requirements, the facility was finished on time and achieved LEED Silver certification.
