Porter Adventist Hospital Emergency Department

26,000 sq ft Renovation, Denver, Colo.

The Porter Adventist Hospital Emergency Department was small, outdated and no longer met the needs of the fast growing southeast area of Denver. Located in the east corner of the hospital's north wing, it was surrounded by other vital departments that had to be relocated before the expansion. Construction was completed in phases, allowing the existing Emergency Department to stay in operation with as little interruption as possible.

Maintaining public access to major corridors and heavily used elevator banks, located in the heart of the renovation, was also a major challenge. The project included replacement of the entire first floor mechanical systems while maintaining positive pressure in the existing Emergency Department. An all-glass addition on the east side of the facility provided a new entrance and a comfortable waiting area for patients and families.
